VeriSign's messaging network to reach globally

South Korea-based SK telink, a subsidiary of SK Telecom, has selected VeriSign Messaging and Mobile Media, a division of internet infrastructure service provider, as its provider of Open Connectivity Short Message Services.

According to VeriSign, through its Open Connectivity Short Message Services (OCSMS), SK telink will be able to exchange inter-carrier person to person text messages globally, across wireless carriers and devices. VeriSign OCSMS may enable mobile carriers to increase reach and revenues while reducing the operating costs associated with establishing operator agreements and negotiating contracts.

VeriSign claims that VeriSign Messaging and Mobile Media Division's combined mobile messaging networks enabled more than 58.3 billion messages in Q3 2008, nearly a 10 percent increase from the previous quarter. It facilitated an average of approximately 634 million messages per day in Q3 2008, compared to approximately 572 million messages per day in Q2 2008 and approximately 280 million messages per day in Q3 2007, said the company.

Seonggyun Hong, vice president of SK telink, said: “Now through VeriSign OCSMS, we've connected our customers worldwide. The opportunities for communication, e-commerce, and collaboration are endless and VeriSign will provide those with reliability and expertise.”

VeriSign Messaging and Mobile Media is a division of VeriSign, the provider of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world. Through this business unit, VeriSign provides global application services that deliver short-messages (SMS), multimedia messages (MMS), and mobile content.
