RIM makes BlackBerry Web Signals available to developers

Research In Motion has announced the availability of the new BlackBerry Web Signals technology for the BlackBerry developer community.

According to RIM, BlackBerry Web Signals technology leverages its push technology to allow online content providers to automatically notify BlackBerry smartphone users when relevant content has been published and to allow streamlined, one-click access to the online information.

Alan Brenner, senior vice president at Research In Motion, said: BlackBerry Web Signals technology allows content providers to engage their customers on a whole new level and to make mobile web access a much more interactive and personalized experience. Push technology makes a night-and-day difference to the mobile experience and BlackBerry Web Signals will help online content providers add value for their customers while driving significant additional traffic to their web sites.

Earlier in October 2008, RIM announced the availability of new developer tools for creating and testing applications for the BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphones. The developer tools include new versions of the BlackBerry Java Development Environment (BlackBerry JDE) that enable the development of mobile applications, as well as desktop simulators for the BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphones.
