"State of the Internet" report from Akamai
Global Internet connection speeds dropped by 7% between the second and third quarters of 2012 to 2.8mbps, according to a new report from Akamai Technologies. However, during the entire year the average connection speeds rose 11% compared to 2011.
During late 2012, South Korea registered the highest average connection speed at 14.7mbps, followed by Japan (10.7 Mbps) and Hong Kong (8.9 Mbps).
According to the report, the global adoption of high broadband rose 8.8% during the third quarter, while overall global broadband adoption increased 4.8%.
Akamai Technologies' third quarter "State of the Internet" report also revealed that China was the biggest source of computer attacks, while the US accounted for 13% of attacks, followed by Russia with 4.7%.
In the mobile space Akamai reported that Apple's Mobile Safari had 60.1% share of data requests on all networks, followed by 23.1% of Google's Android browsers.
