Funambol introduces WiMAX open source mobile device management offering

Automates bootstrap, configuration, monitoring and Firmware over-the-air updates

Funambol, an open source mobile cloud sync company, has released a commercial open source device management offering for WiMAX DM Carrier Edition.

The new offering, developed with WiMAX provider Clearwire, is said to "make it faster, easier and cheaper to wirelessly manage WiMAX devices". It implements the OMA DM 1.2 standard and automates bootstrap, configuration, setup, provisioning, monitoring, Firmware over-the-air updates, lock-down and erase, and reporting.

The end-to-end DM offering DM Carrier Edition, consists of a server and a client for WiMAX devices. The server is built on the foundation of the open source DM Server, and the client supports multiple network profiles (roaming) and Device Reported Measurements and Diagnostics diagnostics for network QoS support.

The open source device management offering can be deployed on-premises or hosted in the cloud by Funambol for customers.

Our solution provides 4G mobile operators and device manufacturers with the ability to perform a full range of device management tasks, everything from set-up and provisioning, to diagnostics and updates.

"The system is scalable, flexible and can be fully customised. Customer support, network and operational functions will become much more cost-effective as a result of implementation."
