AT&T offers new Samsung smartphone to US customers

AT&T and Samsung Telecommunications America have released the new smartphone Samsung Epix, with touch screen and new optical mouse technology powered by AT&T’s 3G network, and the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system.

According to the companies, the Epix in silver finish, is the first-ever implementation of optical mouse technology on a phone sold in the US. The device is available only to AT&T customers in the US.

Bill Ogle, chief marketing officer at Samsung Telecommunications America, said: “Samsung developed this phone with the business user in mind. Users want a device that they can take on the road with them. The Epix allows you to never miss a beat at the office, stay in touch with colleagues and family and enjoy entertainment.”

The Epix’s features include: Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) that provides access to more than 17,000 AT&T hot spots nationwide; built-in aGPS for use with AT&T Navigator; and AT&T Video Share to share live video over wireless devices while participating in a voice call.

The Epix measures 4.6 inches x 2.4 inches x 0.5 inches, weighs 4.4 ounces and includes a 2.5-inch TFT color display; as well as 2.0 Megapixel Camera.
The Epix also provides users with access to multiple email accounts with Microsoft Direct Push for corporate users and AT&T Xpress Mail, which includes access to major personal email accounts.

Michael Woodward, vice president of business mobility products for AT&T’s wireless unit, said: “The Samsung Epix provides AT&T customers with the choice of a touch screen and optical mouse combined with the convenience of a Qwerty keyboard. AT&T and Samsung have had a very successful history of bringing innovative smartphones, such as BlackJack and BlackJack II, to market and the Epix is no exception.”
