Airtel-Vodafone anchor BlackBerry in Channel Islands

Curve 8310, Pearl 8110 first BlackBerry phones to hit the market

Airtel-Vodafone has begun offering Research In Motion's BlackBerry smartphones in the Channel Islands, UK.

According to Research In Motion (RIM), its BlackBerry service brings together smartphones, software and services to enable wireless access to email, phone, organizer, web and multimedia applications, as well as other business and lifestyle applications.

At launch, Airtel-Vodafone will offer the BlackBerry Curve 8310 and Pearl 8110 smartphones. Both units have built-in GPS and advanced multimedia capabilities.

The company claims that BlackBerry Curve 8310 is a smartphone with QWERTY keyboard. It includes multimedia capabilities and built-in GPS that supports location-based applications and services such as mapping and navigation. It adds that, the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 smartphone includes communications features and multimedia capabilities including a 2.0 mega pixel camera, music and video player and an expandable memory slot for additional storage, as well as built-in GPS.

Iain Williams, CEO of Airtel-Vodafone, said: “The BlackBerry smartphone is becoming a lifestyle device. BlackBerry smartphones accommodate the modern way of life and, in combination with the additional services of the Vodafone network, we are confident that the BlackBerry solution will be well received by customers in the Channel Islands.”
